We have found our favorite way to count syllables. We use the actions from the song, heads, shoulders, knees and toes!
It all started with our names. Tom (touch only your head), Billie (touch your head and shoulders), Jennifer (touch your head, shoulders, knees). We quickly added last names and then middle names to see how far we could get. Now, every "big" word we hear, the students want to count the syllables. Metamorphisis and bio-luminescent has been the farthest so far...although none of the kids have asked to count humuhumunukunukuapua’a yet. I guess we need to learn to say it first ;)

Our caterpillars are working as hard as our students this week in class. Each caterpillar has formed a chrysalis. They have been moved to their butterfly cage. We will observe them over the next few weeks in anticipation of them becoming butterflies!
I learned a new song on our Dominican trip. I taught it to the students and they have been singing it all week. It's simple, very catching, and I have found myself singing it throughout the day! I also often catch your children singing it...are you hearing it at home too?
We have started presenting our flat student projects in class. So far we have "visited" Savannah, Florida and Oregon! We will visit the Dominican Republic next week and wherever else your flat child takes us!
