Before we left for the field trip on Wednesday, we planted pumpkin seeds in graham cracker crumbs. When we returned from the pumpkin patch, we checked on the seeds and they had "grown" into a pumpkin muffin!
I must have some very special kids in my room to have such an impossible thing happen ;)

I was surprised that none of the students were showing any interest in the cardboard "bricks" in the blocks center. I was going to put them away and bring out a different kind of block, but I wanted to give it one more chance. I started building my own tower, and within seconds I had a few helpers. The tower was so tall, I had to stand on the tips of my toes to reach the last brick.
Of course, what goes up, must come down! I told all of the children to stand back and I let go! The whole tower came "crashing" down. The second time we built a tower, a lot of friends came to help (a crashing tower makes for quite a show). Again, everyone stood back and the tower came down. By the third time, the students didn't wait for me to start building. They were off on their own, building towers, elevators, and houses! After today, I think I will leave them out a little while longer and see what happens :) We learned all about flat shape attributes this week in Eureka math. While student's still learn what a square, circle, triangle look like, we also learn how many sides and corners the shapes have.
We also learned that a diamond is called a rhombus in Kindergarten. We even put the 4th grade word "vertices" in our memory bank for later!
