We worked on our investigation skills this week as we learned all about our feathered friends. We tested different types of beaks and how beaks are made for different types of food. Below is the best beak type for each food source, according to the children's research.

Many of the students are hoping to catch a leprechaun this weekend and dedicated much time during centers to create the perfect trap. Everyone worked so hard. I hope I hear stories of near misses and the evidence the leprechaun left behind. Happy St. Patrick's Day weekend!
Our class blasted off into space this week and learned why the moon has craters and all about gravity. The students blasted off to the moon in our homemade rocket ship and felt what it may be like to walk on the moon (by walking on a pool raft). Did you know that some astronauts sleep upside down? We also drank juice like and astronaut.
The students worked hard all week to to create their own version of a solar system. They made "rocky" and gas planets and attached them to a star background. We learned that stars are not only white. They can also be red, blue, and yellow. Wow! What a busy week. Our schedule was a little different every day this week because we had special readers in to celebrate Read Across America. Parents, retired teachers, community helpers, and Mrs. Wheeler's 4th grade class all read to us this week.
We also made sock puppets and had a shadow dance party (inspired by Fox in Socks), made shrinky dink creatures for our classroom door (Wocket in My Pocket), and ate Green Eggs and Ham (thanks to a parent who volunteered to make them for us)! |
