We are talking a lot about feasts and long journeys this week. On Friday, the students will bring home a fall place mat they can use during your own Thanksgiving feast. We will also be making story bracelets so the kids can retell the story of the first Thanksgiving (I will send home a "cheat sheet" in case they need help remembering).
We will also try to pack up as many holiday decorations as we can. The children have been busy during center time making hand turkeys and stamping corn. Our math activities included ABAB pattern Indian necklaces, pumpkin number sentences/puzzles, and dice rolling pie!

The kids did great with all the changes to the schedule today! We met our 4th grade reading buddies and learned about our rivers and marshes. Before recess we sat outside on blankets while Ms. Wheeler's fourth grade students read stories to us! Both sets of students seemed to enjoy themselves.
Then, after lunch, we met some friends from Savannah State. We learned about spider crabs and dolphins; touched flounder and shrimp; and held sea urchins and star fish. A HUGE thank you goes out to Savannah State for providing our students with such an enriching activity. :) Did your child come home and make you show them the smoke detectors and test the batteries? The firefighters gave the kids homework to help keep their families safe.
We also learned about the three types of trucks our fire department has, sat in the driver's seat, and used the water hose! |
