Pre-K families,
I have enjoyed getting to know your children for the last 18 weeks. They really are a spirited group! Enjoy this time that you have with your family! Please give your sweet child a hug from me. I look forward to the next 18 weeks as we prepare our minds and bodies for Kindergarten. Happy Holidays and a joyous New Year.

Do you ever hear your child singing a tune you recognize, but the words are different? We have been putting a new twist on some familiar songs in Pre-K. Our favorite to sing is to the tune of Jingle Bells:
Santa Claus Santa Claus Please lend me an ear. I have been so very good, all throughout the year! Santa Claus Santa Claus My teacher would agree. I deserve a special gift, beneath the Christmas tree! Our favorite December chant is: I built a little snowman, he had a carrot nose. Along came a bunny, and what do you suppose? That hungry little bunny, looking for his lunch, Ate that carrot nose, with a nibble, nibble, crunch! We are learning about solids, liquids and gasses this week. We learned hand signals to show how the particles move.
See if you child can remember: Solids (interlace fingers with palms together and hold tight - the particles in solids are very rigid and closely packed together) Liquid (if you remember the "roll them up" gesture from pat-a-cake you can show the liquid signal...liquid particles slide past one another and will take the shape of whatever container they are in) Gas (it was a class favorite...jazz hands - gasses expand freely and escape from open containers) We had a very busy week reading about, eating, and making our gingerbread men. We even renacted the story today! Did you know most children bite the head of a gingerbread man first?
The students worked together in groups to find pictures of living and nonliving things and did a FANTASTIC job. We also read nonfiction books about animals and had a surprize presentation about sea turtles from the May Howard Robotics team! |
