We have been learning about the solar eclipse so the students are ready for Monday. We received the letter about the solar glasses distributed at school on Friday late in the afternoon. I did a quick check of the ones that were sent home, but PLEASE double check your child's glasses. NASA has verified the glasses with the code ISO 12312-2. On Friday we had a solar eclipse party with student made sunshine drink (lemonade) or eclipse drink (blackberry lemonade). The students demonstrated how the eclipse would happen using the models they made in class. We also learned some new vocabulary: eclipse, rotate, and orbit. One of our bright scientists showing how Earth orbits around the sun.
The students are learning new vocabulary in Math and are really catching on quickly.
Has your child started showing you things that are exactly alike at home? We are also working on, "The same, but....". These two are the same color, but different shapes. It's a great start to the sorting activities we will be doing in the upcoming weeks. Eureka math gives the students the ability to EXPLAIN and UNDERSTAND Math in a new way. It is different then how we learned as kids! We are hoping that this curriculum will provide students with a better foundation in mathematics, instill a love of math, and encourage critical thinking skills. We had a very busy two days! We looked through magnifying glasses to make our eyes huge and Mrs. Reynolds arms were eaten by a bear (puppet). Thank goodness one of the students knew magic (or had special medical powers when she waved her arms around) and my arms grew right back!
Thank you for your patience while we adjust to things at the new school and settle into our routines. Every one of your children are awesome in their own way. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to get to know them this year. |
