Pre-K is a great time to be a curious kid. As much as we can, we try to bring in the interests of the students in the class. Walking down the sidewalk seems to be the perfect time for inspiration! On Tuesday some of the students noticed a HUGE crane peeking over the top of the building. I wanted to catch it in action so the students could watch, but the crane has been quietly sitting on school grounds for most of the week. So, needless to say, sometime in the next couple of months we are going to be talking about what those machines do and hopefully we can catch one in action.

We had an unexpected learning experience today after lunch. Yesterday some of the students noticed mushrooms popping up in the grass on the way back to the class. We stopped our line and observed with our eyes the newly formed fungus.
Today, the mushrooms had opened up, wow they sure do grow fast! Instead of just walking by and observing them, today I picked one and we all felt the underside and brought it back to the classroom to look at it with a magnifying glass. One of our students thought the gills looked like tiny slices of cheese! I love that Pre-K allows us to put the lesson plans on hold for a minute or two while we learn about something that is student initiated! Have you noticed the newest page on our class website? Last week I added a world map, so you can see where your child has "traveled". The architectural pictures that pop up on each location are the same as the ones we keep in our block center. Some of the students have tried to replicate the picture during centers and small groups.
We started flying to Europe last week. Our first country we visited was England. We read nonfiction stories, made crowns and played "London Bridges". The students were also very excited to learn that one of our students share the same name as the Queen of England! |
