On Friday, the students held a Whoville Celebration. We read How the Grinch Stole Christmas, watched Horton Hears a Who, made slime, oobleck and played with shaving cream, and made Dr. Seuss sculptures.

So much happens in the classroom everyday that makes me smile.
Today, it was the holiday song the students kept singing at random moments of the day. I have always heard it as Feliz Navidad, but the students hear a different tune. They were singing Elise, Not E-dod. Maybe we need to go to Spanish more often! We have a special visitor in the classroom this week. So far our elf hasn't caused too much mischief...we'll see how next week goes!
In PreK, we are building community by supporting each other, helping others and learning about how people celebrate. We will spend our last few weeks of 2018 celebrating the season of giving. During center time, the students built their own community! What rule did this group have to play with their creation? Don't knock it down! I think they came up with a good rule. You can build more, use any car, play any game, just don't break our creation that we worked so long to build. Thank you to Mrs. Christopher for spending time in our class today to teach us about Hanukkah. We learned about the menorah, played a game with dreidels and ate chocolate coins. Thank you to our room moms for organizing a classroom canned food drive. Due to a miscommunication on the school calendar, several other classes donated to our cause too. We collected 101 cans! Students built a wetu during small groups this week. We used our engineering and interpersonal skills, although all you will hear at home is "we played with the yellow things". Here's a glimpse into what "the yellow things" are.
We had a new friend at recess on Friday. He was little, green and fast. We ended us releasing him past the playground fence.
A HUGE thank you to all of the parents and grandparents who helped with our celebration. The students had so much fun!
We pulled out the insides of a pumpkin today! Some of the students insisted on wearing gloves, but in the end, all of us decided to get our hands dirty! Tomorrow we will describe our pumpkins using our five senses and eventually plant our growing seedlings in the pumpkin shell. The students had so much fun on PJ day. My favorite comments were: "This is so silly, I don't wear my clothes to school today." "Mrs. Reynolds, we will all be great nappers today, because we are already ready for bed!" "These aren't my real pajamas. Mom said I can't wear only underwear." We checked on our plants (some of them are HUGE already) We signed in for the day. We read with our book buddies. We made SLIME! It's in your child's book bag. The students liked adding the contact solution, so it will probably feel more like silly putty. Have fun!
