Students have access to the art center every day during centers (as some of you found out when your child brought home 10 rolled up canvases last week!). They can paint at the easel; make jewelry; draw with markers, crayons, and pencils; or make collages. Every Thursday, they are exposed to an artist and EVERYONE is encouraged to paint. Two weeks ago we learned about Vincent Van Gogh. We discussed a few of his paintings and read a book about the Starry Night. Last week we painted with watercolors to make our own masterpiece. All of their creations will be on display on September 6th during the PTA Open House, but here a a couple of samples of what they were working on. We move onto Benny Andrews this week. He was born in rural Georgia and teaches us to "draw what we see".
